Manchester Camera Club Digital Competition
*NECCC  rules have been  modified to suit our club. To enter, a club “member”, must send  by email (or provide a CD) to the Digital Competition Chairman (temporarily) send to [email protected].  They must be received by the Friday proceeding the competition, a maximum of 2 images  per category may be submitted per entrant. The image filenames MUST MATCH the image filenames in your email., as they will be cut and pasted into a .xls document. The images must be in sRGB  JPG format  (see below for formatting and naming instructions). They can be sent one at a time or in groups of two, depending on your Internet Service Provider and Modem Speed. Your email should include a message stating how many images are attached We will put together a standard email that you can reply to when submitting.  

SUBMITTED IMAGES:

General Rules and Requirements

  1. Entries must originate as photographs (image/captures of objects via light sensitivity) made by the entrant on photographic emulsion or acquired digitally.
  2. It is not acceptable to use a flat bed scanner to originate the image.
  3. By virtue of submitting an entry, the entrant certifies the work as his/her own.
  4. Images may be altered, either electronically or otherwise, by the maker and artwork or computer graphics created by the entrant may be incorporated if the photographic content predominates.
  5. PSA rules on Nature images will be used.
  6. Judging of the competition will follow the general rules in the NECCC slide competition.
  7. Scoring will be from 9 to 30 points
  8. All final work must be in electronic file.
  9. Digital files of the top images will be saved and posted on the web site (by permission) and used for image (s) of the year awards, if the Club decides to embark on that type of activity.  All other files will be deleted.

Assigned Topic

Assigned topics include enhancements and modifications as defined by the topic definition. 

Open Topic

Any subject and any technique can be utilized to enhance your image

Creative Topic

Twice during the 2006-2007 season, there will be a 3rd Topic.  Called Creative.
Image shall be obviously manipulated either in camera or computer to make surreal or bizarre, but attractive image.

PREPARING IMAGES FOR ENTRY:

Computer monitors and electronic projectors use a rectangular window. Traditional 35mm slide projectors have a square window and can project a horizontal or vertical composition image with the same dimensions. The equipment used for judging this competition uses 1024 X 681 resolution.  The image must fit into this window (1024 X 681) Smaller images are acceptable.

*The images will be projected as received.

Sizing your images:

Use this procedure for scanned slides or prints, or images from a digital camera.

  1. In Photoshop or your favorite Image Editing Software, crop your image for best composition.
  2. Convert your image to sRGB color
  3. Choose: IMAGE>IMAGE SIZE
  4. Make sure constrain proportions is checked
  5. Make sure resample image is checked
  6. For Horizontal composition photographs:  Set width to 1024 pixels or smaller.  Height will automatically adjust to the correct proportion (approx. 681).
  7. Square composition images are acceptable as long as they fit into this 1024 X 681window. ]
  8. For Vertical composition photographs:  Set height to 768 pixels or smaller.
  9. Width will automatically adjust to correct proportion (approx. 511).
  10. Resolution should be 100.

Saving and naming your images: After you size your files, you must name and save them, using the  following method:

Choose: FILE>SAVE AS (Use this procedure for each of your images)
1. Your electronic file name will consist of the following:
surname_x_y_z.jpg
Where:
surname is your family (last) name
x is your (first) name (or shortened version thereof) . Use underscore before and after
y is the category Designation
A= Open
    B= Assigned
z is the image title proceeded by an underscore
Select JPEG File Format
Use JPEG quality of 7-8  File size should come in under 500k
Example: Legg_Bob_A_Fireworks399.jpg

It is our intent to discontinue the slide film competition starting September 2006 because of a lack of  participation.  If you have an image in your computer, there is NO reason for not submitting to these Digital competitions
